The Power of Art
Last night I had an art opening at the Star Deli sandwich shop and gallery in Omaha, Nebraska. It was part of Benson’s First Friday art showing. It was a joint show, The Color of Stories, with my husband, photographer Jerred Zegelis, & my son. This photo is my son hanging some of his paintings when we were setting up for the art show. When my husband and I began our creative journey about 15 years ago, I was doing art, he was doing photography, and we did shows together as

Back to the blog
I started blogging in the spring of 2005 and, for the next several years, blogging became this magical doorway to myself: my artwork, my vision for the person I wanted to become and the life I wanted to lead. I wrote as a way of figuring things out, a place to always lead me towards brightness and hope when the darkness pulled at my heels. It was a place I could combine imagery and words and share little pieces of myself with whomever happened to pass by. I had always been a

Getting up to Speed
January often feels like a super-charged treadmill to me, stuck on a level going way too fast. I want to get on, but I just can’t get up enough speed to keep up at such a dizzying pace. If you’ve ever used a treadmill, you know you have to start slow, pace yourself for what’s to come, then you keep building until, suddenly, you’re going faster than you thought you could. And, when you’re able to surprise yourself, it feels pretty amazing. And even though looking around my dim

Keeping it Real
So, when I disappear from social media for a few days every once in a while, it’s usually because I’ve dipped into that place of self-doubt and start worrying too much about content and what my audience wants and I think of a million things I should be doing and get so overwhelmed that I shut down. And the worst part of this ~ I stop reaching out, I stop connecting, I basically stop being me, because I worry that the me I’m going to show up as won’t fit into the version of m

Storytelling
As some of you already know, Jerred hasn’t been shooting much the last few years, aside from his personal projects. He’s been focusing on his new position at Westside. I thought this would be the perfect time to start a new adventure. So, since the beginning of the year, I’ve been working on a new direction for the business and myself, as an artist. Storytelling is still the heart of what I’ll be doing, but now it will be a blend of all my creative passions: photography, art

The Weir Family
There is a another member of the Weir family coming soon, and we met up earlier this month to document this awesome family as they get ready to meet their new little guy. Sarah & Josh are such a great couple, and I'm so excited to see them expanding the crew! It's about to get way more adorable around here. #portraits #family #maternity #omaha #photographer #nebraska

The Zitek Family
When clients ask me what to expect from a photo shoot, I always tell them to dress comfortably, be themselves, and just plan on having fun for about an hour or so. Instead of posing people and making everyone smile at the camera, I encourage them to just "be" with each other. And once people are able to relax, that's when the magic happens. The Zitek family seemed pretty relaxed from the get go. And Maddox was seriously one of the most content little guys I've ever photogr
